In January, Arby’s wanted to know if you could handle the heat when they released their hottest sandwiches ever and held their Diablo Dare Challenge. Others felt the chain should slightly reduce the heat, while others found the products were merely moderately hot. In response, Arby’s debuted a tamer hot sandwich this week, hoping to win over a wider audience.
Hotter than the original roast beef sandwich, the new Spicy Roast Beef Sandwich is a new offering from the fast food joint. On a toasted sesame seed roll, you can find the famous thinly sliced roast beef atop a mountain of lettuce and jalapeño, sprinkled with the same “fiery” seasoning and a new spicy mayo sauce.
Unlike the original Diablo Dare barbecue sauce, which featured habanero pepper, this spicy mayo uses mild cayenne pepper. The smoked brisket and crispy chicken Diablo Dare sandwiches were served on toasted red chipotle buns with ghost pepper cheese, for a quadruple dosage of hot stuff.
Despite the substitution of cheddar for ghost pepper cheese, the other spicy toppings, including the chipotle bread, remained same in the Diablo Dare roast beef sandwich that was released in late October. The sesame seed bread is the new Spicy Roast Beef Sandwich’s minimalistic design.
In comparison to the Diablo sandwiches, which necessitated a unique vanilla milkshake known as the “extingui-shake” to alleviate the heat, this one sounds far milder. With no formal announcement and a sneaky placement onto menus around the country, the Spicy Roast Beef proved it didn’t require a wingman—or much hoopla, either.
Reviews and initial opinions from potential customers indicate that they are pleased with this new option. As part of a Reddit discussion discussing the two Diablo trials, some users voiced their disapproval of the stunt sandwiches, regardless of whether they found them spicy or not. It’s good to know that this is a scaled-down version of Diablo.
According to one, that spice wasn’t enjoyable. The three distinct spice flavors were too much for me. Someone else said that the two flavors didn’t work well together, even though they would have been acceptable individually.
Joining the new sandwich on the menu were a few other staples at Arby’s. You can also get White Cheddar Mac & Cheese, Buffalo Boneless Wings, and Loaded Chicken Bacon Ranch Mac ‘N Cheese. Crispy Fish Sandwich and King’s Hawaiian Fish Deluxe Sandwich, two of the chain’s fish sandwiches, are also back for a limited time.
The reappearance of popular limited-time offerings like the Wagyu Steakhouse Burger and the Diablo Sandwiches is nothing new at Arby’s. It appears that Arby’s is taking its time with this, as it has produced a number of other bizarre products this year, such as Smoked Bourbon and wrapping paper perfumed with pork.
