The annual consumption of chicken wings by Americans during the Super Bowl is, to put it mildly, massive. In 2023, over Super Bowl weekend, the National Chicken Council—a non-profit trade group—predicted that Americans would eat a record-breaking 1.45 billion wings. It’s sufficient to provide every man, woman, and child in the nation with four wings.
As a result, chicken wings are likely to be served at a large number of the forthcoming Super Bowl celebrations this year. Plus, some can be yours for nothing if you’re lucky.
In celebration of Super Bowl LVIII, Popeyes has announced that all customers will receive a complimentary 12-piece wing order. Between February 9 and February 11, customers who use DoorDash to make a purchase of $15 or more at Popeyes will be eligible for the freebie. When members purchase $15 or more, they can upgrade that offer to a free 12-piece combo.
Not to worry if you’re in a rush and can’t wait for the Super Bowl to satisfy your wing desire! In addition, on Sunday, February 4, during the NFL Pro Bowl Games, Popeyes will be giving away free 12-piece wings. Customers using DoorDash who make a $15 or more purchase at Popeyes and use the promo code “WINGIT” during checkout are eligible for the discount.
Although chicken wings had been a seasonal offering at Popeyes on multiple occasions recently, they weren’t added to the menu permanently until November 2023. Popeyes spent a lot of time perfecting their chicken wings, so their official addition to the menu was a major deal.
It took their team three years to get it perfect, according to Popeyes VP of culinary innovation Amy Alarcon, who stated at the time.
Sweet ‘N Spicy, Roasted Garlic Parmesan, Honey BBQ, Signature Hot, and Ghost Pepper are the five wing varieties that are currently available to customers. After soaking in Popeyes’ spices, each wing is hand-battered, breaded, and seasoned to perfection.
With wings as a permanent menu feature, Popeyes has been trying to woo over customers away from other wing restaurants and toward its own take on the beloved chicken dish. As an example, a press release states that in November, the wings were advertised near rival eateries through strategically placed billboards.
Popeyes appears to be making yet another effort to introduce even more Americans to its chicken wings with the Super Bowl and Pro Bowl sponsorships. But Popeyes isn’t the only fast food joint offering complimentary wings to celebrate the big game.
On February 11, customers who spend $40 or more on to-go or delivery orders will receive 20 free boneless wings, according to Applebee’s.
Customers may redeem the deal by placing an order through Applebee’s mobile app or website and entering the promo code “BIGGAME24” when paying for their meal. If the Super Bowl goes into overtime, Buffalo Wild Wings will also be giving out free wings to everyone in the US.
